...how is it no one told me Meatloaf released a new album? Did no one understand the first tape--yes, tape, that plastic thing with brown stuff inside that could double as a garrote on a bad date?--the first tape I ever stole from anyone was Bat Out of Hell II?

Song of Madness (youtube link) from Hang Cool Teddy Bear--seriously!--I have no idea if I like this album. There's just something about massive balladic melodrama that does it for me. Meatloaf kind of transcends like/hate/wtf for me. When you find yourself sincerely singing the ten fucking minute version of Objects in the Rearview Mirror (youtube link), you kind of lose the ability to judge like, anything.

Also, Hugh Laurie--yes, Hugh Laurie--plays on the album or something?

...you have heard his cover of Celine Dion's It's All Coming Back to Me Now, right? I swear it's the sequel to I Will Do Anything for Love. I think that's the same castle!

I feel so conflicted. I went to get more Augustana and I ended up--here. With Meatloaf. This is so very confusing. I mean, can Augustana compete with like, a full symphony orchestra accompaniment to psuedo-Dracula!Beast watching his BelleMina-esque obsession in a hand mirror engage in somewhat lesbian antics in an oversized bed after what appears to be a really really enjoyable bath?

Did anyone else come out of watching that feeling like classic fairy tales knocked up classic literature and the offspring was raised by Heathcliff from Wuthering Heights before it grew up to be that video?

Right. Me either. Nor am I watching it right now.

ETA: [personal profile] raina linked to the history of It's All Coming Back to Me Now.

...I have no idea what to do with that.

I adore Meatloaf (saw him in concert in the UK way back when) and I used to play Steinman's Pandora's Box album REALLY LOUD when I was a teenager and emo.

God, the voices those women had!

I miss being teenage-emo. That was fun. *sighs*

Wallowing in angst and getting that weird comfort from being so utterly drenched in misery and despair... Good times :-))

NO ONE UNDERSTOOD OKAY?

BECAUSE THEY ARE SO OOOOOOOLD. LIKE, 30 AT LEAST!

I'll have you know I paid good money for Bat Out of Hell II!

When I was 12 years old, mind you.

Suckkkerrr. I GOT IT FOR FREESIES!

I did not know that song could get more over-the-top. I am delighted (I think) to be shown the light.

Yes. But that only scratches the surface! Said offspring apparently also had a fling with the special effects from Supernatural. And reminded me of Howard's End at inopportune moments.

Bat Out of Hell II was the first tape I ever listened to so much it did that weird stretchy warp thing where the sound got all distorted. It added a certain something. I just went and looked up the album to remind myself of some of the song titles (Objects in the Rear View Mirror! May Appear! Closer! Than They Are!), and damn, that cover is totally bitchin'.

I'm not sure I've ever cackled like that at Wikipedia.

Mein gott! Meatloaf played lullabies for me. The intro alone to Bat Out of Hell is among my top five instrumental pieces, if only for dint of familiarity. I can sing many of the songs from memory!

I need this new thing like burning!

Yes yes yes. IT IS SO HUGELY THERE I NEED IT.

OMG I FEEL SO OLD !!! MY MOTHER USED TO PUT ME TO BED WHEN I WAS A BABY AND PUT THE BAT OUT OF HELL CASSETTE ON FOR ME ... YEAH NOT BAT OUT OF HELL 2 ... THE FIRST ONE ! WHEN I WAS A BABY LOL .... OMG I JUST LOOKED, IT CAME OUT IN 1977, I HOWEVER CAME OUT IN 1976 LOL :D

I ALSO WENT TO SEE THEM AT THE MOLSON AMPITHEATER IN TORONTO IN 1996, NEXT TO GIVING BIRTH 9 MTHS PRIOR IT WAS THE BEST DAY OF MY LIFE ...

omg now i have to go find my dvds with all their songs and upload to the pc ... omg i hate/love you :D

Bwahaha, I think I am older than all of you...our local movie theater used to screen Meatloaf videos from Bat Out of Hell (the first one!) before showing Rocky Horror Picture Show at midnight. I bought that album on VINYL. ;-)

*grins* God, that song.

I'm not sure of the album either, but weirdly, I keep listening to it on youtube anyway. There is something there. Possibly a violin solo, but there.
