Your BFF 'unfriended' you -- now what? on CNN

The eternal question.

Yeah, I don't know. For some reason, that struck me as hilarious.

Well, obviously you write all sort of scurrilous lies about them and give them the evil eye the moment you see them in a non-electronic capacity. *g*

Seriously, my own sister "unfriended" me and all our cousins. Why? Who knows and/or cares? People are becoming a bit too obsessed with all the online networking and ignoring that whole pesky real life interaction thing. That said, I personally seem to have some sort of LJ IV, so...

I mean, I get it, but it's still pretty hilarious.

(Apparently jmtorres about had a heart attack when she got the notice about my unfriending her. Despite knowing full well that I was taking off everyone who was cross-posting with no unique LJ content. *wry*)

The internet is weird.

Oh, dear. I didn't realize that the person gets a notice when you unfriend someone on LJ. I was just hoping to be quiet about it. Damn.

I actually didn't find this hilarious because my husband's family has pretty much shunned us over the past year and while I don't care much (except for one of them), he was and is still upset about it.

But friends come and go. Sometimes you drift apart, sometimes distance plays a part, sometimes you have a big fight and that's the end.

You can turn your notices on or off; it's in the preferences somewhere. I have mine off, because I really don't want to know every time someone friends or unfriends me! If I personally know someone, I probably already know why they are friending or unfriending me, and if I don't, why on earth would I care?

*winces* I'm so sorry about that. IT was less the content than CNN had an article about it that just made me boggle. I mean, speaking to the readers' interests is great and all, but how to handle unfriending seems a little--odd.

That's okay. I can see why you thought it's hilarious that CNN would actually have something on BFF and defriending (it really is hilarious!). But then CNN has lots of weird stuff that they cover. They seem to want to be all things to all people instead of being a news organization and covering....*gasp* news.

Ahahhaa! I guess it's time to break out the ice cream & depressing movies?

I am reminded of the hilarious icon when the solar system defriended Pluto.

What? They now do news articles about the plainest internet drama? You wouldn't think that it was this slow a news cycle, what with all the ongoing crises. This is even more pathetic than the usual "man bit dog" kind of fluff.

Maybe on account of how it's hilarious?

Yup, it's a slow news day all right.
