HAPPY!

Okay, my day? Got so much better. And three of thoes things involved geekery.

1.) The phone thing is solved. Well, mostly. I don't *understand* why creditors think I owe them money, but that is what call block is for. And youknow, ordering a copy of my credit report. Whee!

2.) Okay. Now. Binary. I understand what the hell it is. This is what I was trying to explain--memorization and understanding. I was tested on thsi stuff once upon at time and got through it without any idea of what the hell. Then it was like--oh! Eight! Sixteen! Thirty-two! Bits! THE LAST ONE IS A POSITIVE/NEGATIVE! I ONLY NEED TO MEMORIZE UP TO 2 TO THE FOURTEENTH POWER! I had this huge geek out while translating random numbers into binary at the bus stop. It was very fun. My professor kept trying not to laugh at me while im like, look! 32000! I HAVE IT HERE! LOOK AT THE PRETTY PATTERNS!

Then I was like WAIT HOW DO YOU GET THE ONE HUNDRED DIGITS OF PI and he sighed and looked at me and remembered abruptly I was the one asking about reverse engineering from exe to source and realized, yes. This would be his life while I was in his class.

3.) Got a cell phone. It has bluetooth! I just synched my laptop with it! AND I AM IN THE ZONE!

Thank you. You may all now return to your regularly scheduleld program. Um, those who had any of my old cell numbers? Post here or email me so I can give the new one.

*HAPPY*

IT IS A GOOD DAY!

(random--so is there a command that's not int or double that covers 64 and 128?)

HAPPY.

(still pissy at my boss, but Ill probably play with my phone a lot to compensate.)

PS: I forgot to squee about values. I had this revelatory moment of comprehension about ASCII and char, double, int, float, and I was like--ohhhh. Oh my GOD. This is what this is?? I THOUGHT THIS WAS IMPOSSIBLE?

Er. Yeah. Carry on. But God. Good class day.

1. Glad you sorted that.

2. Binary... *hides*

3. Oooh, shiny. What phone did you get? I really need to get a new cell at some point since my current one is on its last legs. I use the damned thing way too much.

Nokia something. It takes pictures and has bluetooth. That's all Im sure it does so far.

*ponders* It's *pretty*.

2. Oh my god. I totally thought of you during my software dev class today when the professor announced that we were going to go back to program in C. (I had a sort of very large inner wince because. Well. I really don't like C. ;-;)

What do you like to program in?

Not really much of anything. >D; I dislike programming, and thus am totally of the wrong major, but hey! Almost done! *sheepish look*

Heh. Want to switch? I have a psych major... And still spent approx. 2 + years of life taking classes in C/C++. How do you figure?

I'm a CS-Chinese double major! Except I'm going out and working in 3D modeling and texturing. Basically, I wanted to go to art school, but being Chinese, the parents said no. WELL NYAH-HAH, MOM, I'M GOING INTO ART ANYWAY. ;D ;D (I'm pretty okay with the Chinese major part though! The parents, not so much. There is a pattern here. >D;)

*laughs*

So far, it's so--hmm. I don't know. It's not simple, but it's so much more understandable than I thought it would be, than it *used* to be when I was explained the theory before.

I can't wait to get to software engineering. I *look* at it on my classes for next year and get annoyingly excited.

Hee! really? the only thing I clearly understood was the phone bit... binary? not so much... but it's good to hear your happiness!

ps... I have a link (& explanation) that I would like to send you (for entertainment value) ... would LJ be okay or email better?

Either one! jenn at thegateway dot net or here, either one.

It has bluetooth! I just synched my laptop with it! AND I AM IN THE ZONE
Oh so you're the reason mine went kablooey yesterday? Just when I'm expecting a call from the plumber *narrows eyes at you* you know how hard it is to get hold of one of those guys right?

*giggles helplessly and thinks of index cards*

cos I'm a sad wannabe librarian at heart.

2. I think that the reason I enjoyed my assembly class so much was that same sort of "ohhhhhh, that all makes so much SENSE" feeling that actually understanding what the processor is doing gives me. I would program in it all the time if I could. (Yes, I know I'm sick.)

No, i am totally wiht you--I'm doing that one either spring or summer, depending on scheduling. I'm *very* excited.

...of course, i'm like tell me more about this machine code which my professor is probably right now twitching about and has no idea why.

He'll twitch but still love you, it's the geeky code. Especially after half a semester of students failing out because of all night gaming sessions.

The profs secretly really like the excited ones.

sidenote, reverse engineering mostly recognizes certain types of structures such as loops and output statements - you never get the exact code, but you can get a reasonable facsimile thereof.

We can only hope.

First code on Thursday!
