it is late. I have a flight tomorrow. I am not panicking

So when I'm stressed I have this habit of--organzing things.

It's doubly so when I'm going to see other fangirls. If people are visiting your house, you clean, right?

When I'm visiting other fangirls, I ORGANIZE MY FOLDERS ON MY LAPTOP.

I--it's like I'm worried they'll randomly go through my files and mock that I put a SGA story in with a group of SV ones.

It's--weird.

I just finished placing all my vids into folders, split by show if there is more than two for a show, a separate folder for movie vids, another for trailers. I am currently in my SGA folder, contemplating breaking it down by Drama and Comedy.

Please send help. I am writing a fic and getting ready to go on a cruise and I'm fairly sure this is how nervous breakdowns start.

Also, my sister is moving home this weekend. *sighs and looks at ritalin bottle* I think this means that the bottle will never leave my sight again. I got used to being able to not watch my purse constantly.

Hmm. I feel like oversharing.

231 is not excessive. If I carefully dont' think of the ones I have on CD and DVD. Which I am not. Those are in a box far from my bed and I am not getting up to count.

Hmm. I--you know? I almost never feedback vids. I wonder if doing it in groups of ten by folder would be acceptable in a series of posts.

*eyes list* If I can even figure out where I *got* most of them.

Oh WOW is it nearly time for your fangirly cruise? Have a great time.

It's okay to tidy Honest!

Keep it under your hat but in Spring Clean mode I've been known to want to iron interfacing flat - okay yes I sew - not often which is why the *iron-on* interfacing's all screwed up :S

That's the problem with giving feedback for vids -- there's no easy way of adding / attaching the url to give feedback!

Hmm. I--you know? I almost never feedback vids. I wonder if doing it in groups of ten by folder would be acceptable in a series of posts.

Vidders welcome feedback, in my experience, in nearly any format and at any time. If you're going to making recs in your LJ rather than sending feedback directly to the vidders, it would be a courtesy to email the vidders and let them know. Not to get their permission (I don't believe that a rec requires permission), but because otherwise the vidder might never see your rec - and that would be a shame.

Though when it comes to pointing other folks to the vids via a rec, the basic common sense courtesies are important, IMO. Don't provide a direct link to the vid itself, link to the vid's announcement page or the vidder's main website page, especially if the site is password protected. Nearly all vidders who have a preference about linking to their vids post the info, so it's not typically hard to find.

*eyes list* If I can even figure out where I *got* most of them.

If you have vids that don't have any credits at all, your best bet is two-fold: post with basic info (title, music, fandom, whatever is catchy about the vid - pairing, theme, etc.) and ten-to-one your flist can identify them. If not, then there is a LJ community specificaly for finding vids or identifying vidders, not surprisingly called vidfinders. Their success rate is quite high.

I just finished placing all my vids into folders, split by show if there is more than two for a show, a separate folder for movie vids, another for trailers. I am currently in my SGA folder, contemplating breaking it down by Drama and Comedy.

I've a thing about organizing info, especially fannish info; I find it almost meditative at times. Pity that doesn't extend to more things outside my computer. *g* When you say that you separate out trailers, are you speaking about professionally produced trailers, i.e. trailers that the studios release, like for Harry Potter or PotC? Or are you distinguishing between fan-made trailers and fan-made songvids?

And it's interesting that you're considering breaking out vids within fandoms by categories like drama or comedy. I break out vids by fandom, then into individual folders by vidder. That makes it easier for me to identify vids for rec and feedback purposes. It's also the way I group fan fiction.

If I have less than a dozen vidders for a particular fandom (give or take, depending also on the overall number of vids for that fandom) then they go into my multi-fandom folder, again separated into their own vidder folders. Within the multi-fandom folder, vidder folders can also have sub-folders for different fandoms. Vids that include source footage from multiple fandoms also go here, sorted in the appropriate vidder folders.

And no, 231 vids is not excessive. 231 GIGs, however....Though really, I think my collection is closer to 200 than 230 GIGs and includes substantial numbers that I've not winnowed out for archival purposes, keeping intact snapshots of vidding history as it were. A collection of personal favorites would be far smaller, of course.

231? Excessive?
Umm, I'm pretty sure I have at least double that in QaF vids *alone* :P
Now I'll admit that QaF was the fandom I went a little crazy in for vids, but still....

Vids. Mmm, vids. I don't know how many I have in my one vids folder (I sort by starting each filename off with the fandom and just listing alphabetically, so it all goes in one folder), but I wouldn't be surprised if it were a few hundred. I have this urge to trade vids-lists and maybe mail each other DVD-Rs...

Hahahahahahahaha. I HAVE this folder now. *pets it and loves it and WATCHES FANCY OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN OMGIHATEYOU*

I feel kind of bad now that I just dump everything into the same folder. Good luck with that. Enjoy the Squirrel-y Wrath!
