So. I couldn't find a beta, I'm not sure what I'm doing, and it's given me a headache from hell. All my love to martianhousecat for walking me through what I was doing and why. tstar78 for the original encouragement.

Time and a World Away

NC-17, Clark, Clark/Lucas, implied others, implied incest

He has a question only Lucas can answer. Lucas answers questions he doesn't ask.

I--really don't know. Futurefic, kind of hazy, and I really, really need to get over my Lucas fixation someday.

"My brother redefines obsession, but he does it so--creatively. He thought you had secrets. You were interesting. Worth the effort, the energy. I could tell you things--but you know, right?"

"Want me to tell you?" The blue eyes are hazy, soft. "What it takes to make him want? He doesn't do it like anyone else, he doesn't know how not to take. And God, he made me want, too."

I have a thing for Obsessed Lex. And this story definitely gave me that ten-fold...those two paragraphs were favorites.

I'm glad you're taking on writing Lucas-fic. There's so much to be gotten out of him, he's like this big blank open canvas that is screaming for somebody to paint him.

Obsessed Lex is my complete fascination. He does it so--well. *grins*

I honestly can't figure out WHY he just gets my attention so much. I suppose it's that he's so much like Lex, but beyond redeemable. Like he's broken but not really fixable.

*sighs* Me and scary men. Thank God I dont' date.

*hugs* Thank you!

I really, really need to get over my Lucas fixation someday.

*whines* but why????

*g*

The eyebrows. They should annoy me. They SHOULD. But they don't. It bothers me I'm obsessing over a character with those eyebrows.

*grins* I am SO shallow.

I've said it before: Lucas disgusts me. His entire character is composed of the honesty and pain and candor that might have been Lex's if Lex were any other man. Lucas equals Lex, surpasses him even, in all the matters that nag at the far corner of my consciousness when I read/watch/write Lex in any situation. Lucas is raw, *used*, tainted. Beyond threats and fear and death. He makes Lex's inner struggles into petty, childish things.

I stopped reading Lucas fics because no one seemed to share my interpretation of him. This fic captured it, highlighted it, explained it perfectly as, I know now, I will never bother to try to do. Thank you for writing this, for getting this out of my system and for saving me from my own bumbled attempt.

Wow. *blinks*

You SHOULD write it, seriously. I'd love to see what you'd do with him in your view now. Please?

And thanks for comments.

But think about it, if you have time.

You really have a thing for Luthors running/hiding, don't you? First HoD, and now this... It took two readthroughs for me to understand it all. It seemed like it was missing something to make it flow better. It *flows*, but not enough. It's the little things, like "um, wait, who's speaking again?!" I don't need it spelled out, but because it's such a thick story it might allow the reader to concentrate on other things, like just how well you convey the history in a few succinct lines. Thanks for the story, unbeta'd and all.

Ok, returning to lurking about...

Thanks for the comments!

Is there any chance you could be more specific on what didn't flow quite right? Or any suggestions to clarify?

My email is jenn@thegateway.net. Any critique would be appreciated.

Obviously this is the week to simultaneously freak the hell out of rm, and creepily turn her on.. You're spot on for both.

Obsession. That's what Clark closes his eyes, closing his fingers gently over Lucas' shoulder.
I'm not quite following what you're going for in this sentence.
Not Lex's skin, but his body remembers how the bones curve and fit together. Lucas is like Lex--tactile, but none of the distnace.
spelling of distance.

Almost smooth, bone too prominent beneath thin skin, scars making little catches wherever his fingers slip.
this is just fucking gorgeous.

A familiar body in the wrong package, but it's easy to forget that when Lucas kisses him back.
how sick is it that i just wanted it to end here? a quasi-happy ending.

Clark licks his lips again. This time, his tongue comes away clean. "I--yeah."
Lex murmurs something into the phone, then drops it in his pocket. He still isn't smiling, but that steady, interested look says it all.
Clark follows him out of the alley.

and holy fuck.. what an ending.

You might not have known what you were doing, but damn what a headtrip.
Definitely my new favorite Smallville story.

And i severely(!) hope your Lucas fixation continues.. this was just superb.

*laughs* Fixed both. Tha'ts what I get for doing panicky last-second edits.

Not at all. I kept looking at the sex going, hmm. This could go into a really REALLY different place than I thought....

*hugs* Thank you SO much for the feedback. I'm glad you enjoyed it!

No! No, you don't. Honest! Trust me on this. *g*

I really like your take on Lucas, also the way we see Lex almost exclusively through Lucas' eyes, right up until the end. Dark and creepy, but great storytelling.

Thanks!

I'm very good with dark and creepy. *grins*

This was chilling, and spooky, and warped and wonderful! Sick stuff. Great job! *g*

Aww, you say the sweetest things!

*hugs*

Thanks!

Really, really liked this, Jenn. I've been thinking about it on and off ever since I read it.

I also have nagging questions... how much Clark knows, how much Lex knows, how much of what Clark did was unconsciously motivated... Not that any of these need to be answered in the story; they're just something to wonder about.

In fact, if I weren't in the middle of a crisis at work, I'd probably be tracking you down to talk about these things. *g*

*hee*

And thank you for taking time to read.

I kept wondering if there should be MORE, except the story never seemed to lend itself to much exposition and--I don't know. Appaently I really do have an obsession with people running away from other people. Hmm.

Won't even THINK about what that implies about my psyche. *grins*

*hugs* Hope the crisis is resolved with all bowing before your might and fury. Also, with offerings of chocolate.

I don't have time to read this! oooooh, this is not fair!

:::looks at two stacks of tax returns:::

erm

:::looks at story:::

maybe if only read a little bit?

no, no, must be strong...

*laughs*

Taxes are IMPORTANT....

I think. *mulls*

Please don't. It's funny (and not in a ha ha way). Lucas and Lex are so incredibly alike - their focus, their drive, their obsessiveness, the ways they choose to act out and relate to people. Yet they ended up in such different places. It reminds me of the conversation Lucas and Clark had when they first met - which is the stronger influence, nature or nurture? Lucas and Lex are almost identical in nature (which, I think, is why Clark is so strongly drawn to both of them) but the lives they lived put them on opposite sides. Perhaps they are such adversaries because of their similarities. And that's why Lex had to go after Lucas. It wasn't about the knowledge Lucas had; there is a pretty good chance that Lex could either have killed the story or spun it. He went after Lucas because there is only room in the world for one Lex. He had to get rid of the second one.

And that was a lot of rambling about something that is probably totally out of left field. Feel free to ignore it. *g* Except for this part - Great Story!

Hee! Yes.

It's--Lucas and Lex are alike in these really REALLY bizarre ways that vaguely freak me out.

No, Lex really doesn't like rivals, does he?

*grins* Thanks!

Okay, I am having a serious love/hate relationship with this story, Jenn. After three read throughs I'm still conflicted.

I love Lucas in this, (I really didn't care for the actor that played him,) here he is hot. Even though he is a murdering, sadistic, junkie, he's got Lex's bones and obsessions and an undying desire for Lex's love //attention// that breaks my heart. Why fuck Clark? Because Lex wanted to of course! His sex flayed the skin. Dying in a kiss, shit!! that was so perfect.

But Clark here is so Freaksome for me. He makes this piece -skincrawly. Okay, 13 years after Smallville, right? and I get the impression that he "never" with Lex but has been fixating on him with all the, need to save Lex, need to fuck Lex, need to make him pay crap that a Kent can generate. And I believe Kents can generate a truck load. But our boy Clark here is morally so off center that having Lucas killed in his arms, barely causes a reaction. Lex's appearance doesn't create an emotional reaction either. And the point seems to be that all of this is about LEX, Eveyrthing Lucas and Clark have done has been about LEX. So I wanted something from Clark that he didn't give me. Clark has achieved Lex's focus and I really wanted to know how that affected him.

This *is* really nice work, Jenn. As always I thank you for sharing with me, us. :) Vee

*nod*

I went over it with MHCseveral times trying to figure out what where I was going with Clark and I think I agree with you on him. Hmm.

But yeah, Lucas. Obsessed beyond words to describe. *dreamy* Scary boy, isn't he?

*hugs* Thanks!

This is so creepy and twisted and I absolutely loved it. Amazing characterization of Lucas. So much like Lex and yet so different. Desperate obsession he shares with Clark for the addiction that is Lex. And Lex... playing not one but two (three if you count Superman) games of cat and mouse with finesse that only makes this entire situation creepier.

Please, don't get over your fixation any time soon. Please.

Heeee! Yes. Lex is having a very bizarre sort of fun with them, isn't he?

*grins* Thanks!
