So the week has looked up by the end.

Let's start with the happy stuff. People who write fic.

Recs

Make Me Happy by Ash Jay. Threesomeness and wow, hot? Yes. Especially the imagery of Clark with a red K tongue ring which is possibly one of the best ideas I've heard in a looong time. Vaguely creepy ending, especially about going to see Lex after--I'm just wondering if he'll survive long enough to orgasm. *grins* Read and enjoy.

The Tick of the Universe by penelope_z. I love her style period, and I love how she writes Lex and Clark. Melodic, beautiful, and bittersweet. Vintage Penelope.

Disturbing the Rhythm by Shellah. Hot. Very much. Damn. *grins*

Falliable Theory by zahra. An entrant in the Twelve Days of Pain for Clark challenge issued by rageprufrock, and beautifully written. Lex POV. Very--ambiguous ending. Per usual, zahra makes me think.

Tax Haven by Melo. Hee! Another entrant in Celli's Taxfic challenge and hysterical. I loved it. Especially poor Clark and accounting beating him up.

Points of Triangulaton by andariell. A lovely Chloe/Lana fic that worked beautifully with both characters. Much recommended for reading right now.

The Master Plan by ingrid. *dies* A hysterical fic for Celli's Taxfic Challenge, and ingrid does it short, sweet, and ruthless. I'm totally in love here.

Trinity: Three Things That Didn't Happen to Lionel Luthor by serrico. Oh DAMN. Strange, surreal, WEIRD, and so damn cool. No spoilers, because dammit, it needs to be read straight through.

Capable by destina Oh she makes me happy. Beautiful post-Suspect bit of ficness that does a lovely, lovely Clark.

Favorite Lines:

Lex's eyes are dark, his feelings no longer obscured; Clark knows that look. He's imagined it so often he's made it real. Clark isn't capable of looking away. Then he remembers: capable. Dominic had made the word ugly. Capable, he'd said - an implication of darkness. "In your heart, Clark, you've always known what Lex was capable of."

Yes, thinks Clark, as Lex kisses him, holds him, mends fences for him. I did know. He's capable of this.

*sniffles* Yes. Just like that. Beautiful.

Vulnerable Confusion by Henry Jones Jr. Post Rush redfic, Lana and Lex get a full dose of Clark at his most honest and most nasty. CLex, very good. Very painful, too. Wanna slap Clark. *G*

Everything's Eventual (Try to Act Surprised) by Lint. Chloefic.

Okay, this one? Hated on first read. Could NOT get it. Second read, though....

Oh wow. Yes. Again, stories like this? The reason I absolutely love to read fanfic.

Smallville is The Show of Rife Symbology and Destiny. From the first day to the last ep, that's what it IS. It's saying, we all know how this story ends, now let's see why. It also says, it was inevitable

Or, you know, maybe it *wasn't*.

I'm about to take serious license in interpretation, since this is specifically what I got out of it.

Chloe takes stock of her life at the deathbed of her father, the unsatisfactory destiny she always expected. The one that from the beginning she always figured she would have. And that, in some ways, if not all ways, she created for herself.

A conversation between Chloe and Lex, future time.

"Clark," he says, spitting the name from his lips as if it were venom. "It was about ending things quickly for you. It's easy to hate a cheat. And as an added bonus, you fuck his newfound enemy."

"You make it sound so simple."

"Because it is. You knew what it would do to him. I just don't understand why you would hurt him like that."

"There's that question again."

"Answer me."

"I loved him."

"I never thought you didn't."

"It was going to end anyway."

"You know this for a fact?"

"Yes," she says firmly. "And I also know it's easier to walk away from something than to watch it leave."

It's even more interesting in light of this, later in the story.

It's on her fifth lap when she sees her ghost on the hill in the middle of the park, sprawled out next to Clark on a blanket she remembers that got thrown away when she moved. He is lying on his back with his hands behind his head and she sees herself leaning over him and smiling. She strays from the pond to get a closer look. She remembers this day. The last time they ever came here. They last time she made him happy. As she gets closer Clark doesn't seem to notice her, but her ghost does. She doesn't look happy anymore.

"He loved you so much don't you know that?"

"I did," she replies. "I do."

"And you still did what you did to him?"

"Yes."

Her ghost smiles down at Clark. Runs her fingers gently through his hair.

"This whole pain and misery and loneliness thing. You did it to yourself you know."

"I know."

"What if you were wrong?"

"I wasn't."

"But how do you know?"

"I just do," she says looking away. "He would have left anyway."

"You keep saying that but do you really know?"

"Yes I do," she says turning her head back to the image of her old optimistic self. "And you do too. You cherished every moment with him because you knew they were never going to last."

Her ghost looks up from Clark.

"So you knew Lex and Clark wouldn't be friends forever."

"Yes."

"And you knew that you and Clark wouldn't last forever."

"Yes."

"About daddy dying?"

"Yes."

She's had enough of the vision. Enough of questioning herself. Beating herself up over and over again isn't going to change anything. She closes her eyes and counts to three, but when she opens them her ghost is still there.

"Well jeez little miss know-it-all," it says mockingly. "What happens when life tries to surprise you?"

*grins*

It's--depressing and freeing and strangely wistful. Chloe bought into destiny before anyone else did--and believed in it so hard she created it for herself, exactly what she never wanted.

And this ending.

Stopping on the corner of Gaines and Burnside she can see all the choices she made. Miles of tar and concrete fade away into an endless dirt road splitting itself between stalks of corn and tall grass. She knows that everything that ever happened, everything that ever will happen, will lead her down this same road.

She continues down Burnside and thinks about destiny.

She follows her path.

It doesn't get any more bitter than this. She made a choice not to even compete, because she didn't think she'd win. She chose not to fight an enemy that didn't even exist until she created it.

Because destiny, in this story? Was all about Chloe's choices.

Nasty bit of catch-22. The author rocks.

So. You know. Absolutely adore it now. Just adore it.

Places to Go

This is a short list. I've barely skimmed my friends list and read the fascinating convos going on there.

Discussion of BDSM in SV by penelope_z. Really interesting stuff going on with both the Lionel/Lex and Lex/Clark pairings in mind.

ClarkRage and Lex is a good friend by liviapenn in which Livia discusses both the anger against Clark and why Lex really is a great friend. Hence the title. *g*

Other Stuff

Working on fic. Liv gave me an idea--or I gave her one and she gave it back, not too sure on its genealogy there. My sister got an LJ. She leaves for the army in about a week and it's more than a little sad. She's also below minimal weight again, so her recruiter's working to get her those last three or so pounds--I think it was three or so pounds. And that about covers it. Interesting convos are mentioned above, as trust me, this is as interesting as I get. Mild sinus infection thing boring the hell out of me, but on the upside, wow, does my nose have some serious color! See, you know, storms, silver linings, platitudes galore going on here.

Huh. I miss Jack.

Anyway, going to go work on something. In lieu of that, look at Word menacingly and hope words appear magically. Which I think is perfectly possible, darn it.

Disturbing the Rhythm by Shellah. Hot. Very much. Damn. *grins*

Whee! A rec! Thanks so much. And, uh, thanks for the comments. *grins back*

Tax Haven by Melo. Hee! Another entrant in Celli's Taxfic challenge and hysterical. I loved it. Especially poor Clark and accounting beating him up.

*blinks at rec, then at Jenn, then at rec again*

Wow. Double wow. Thanks so much! I sympathize with Clark you know. How anyone could be sitting next to Lex and actually concentrate on something else than "Mmmm, sexy..." is beyond my grasp. *g*

from one sinusitis sufferer to another - try grape seed extract. 3 a day for 3 months, then cut back if you wish. it amps up the mucous membrane immunities. I've gone from 4 or so infections in a year, to ONE~! and that one doesn't kick my ass anymore. WooHoo.
